Changing the wallpaper in Android 12L is much faster
Changing the wallpaper in Android has never really been a long-winded process, to be honest. Long-pressing on an empty spot in the home screen and tapping the wallpaper option will take you to a menu where you can change it. It’s as simple as that, but Google seems to think that the process could be streamlined just a bit. In Android 12L, you will be able to change the wallpaper without having to go to any separate menu to do so. When you long-press on the home screen, a popup window will appear with the wallpaper, widget, and home screen settings. Immediately above the wallpaper options, you’ll see a selection of wallpapers that you can choose right from the window. Once you tap a wallpaper, it will change instantly, and the Dynamic Color will change along with it. You can only use this feature if you’re using the Android 12L beta that was released. Just know that since it’s a beta, you will run into some stability issues. One issue that was spotted by 9To5Google was the wrong wallpaper being assigned.
What is Android 12L?
Android has always been a great operating system for phones, but not really for tablets. Android on tablets is just the version for phones but stretched out to fit a bigger screen. This usually leads to a lot of issues with app scaling and basic functionality. In order to fix this, Google introduced Android 12L. This is a version of Android that’s made specifically for tablets. It’s the company’s answer to iPad OS. With this version of Android, certain UI elements are formatted specifically for larger displays. The notification shade is split into two columns. This makes it a lot easier to read, as no one wants to scroll vertically oriented notifications on a landscape device. One side will have the quick settings and the other side will have the notifications. There will be an app dock on the bottom of the screen just like that on Chrome OS. What makes it different from the app dock on Android 12 is that it will remain visible even within an app. There are going to be a lot more changes to come with as we approach a final release. Right now, the only device that’s slated to get the official version of the software is the Lenovo P12 Pro tablet.
