However, Yoel Roth, the company’s head of safety and security, denied the news, saying they’ve not changed or weakened content policies and hateful conduct still has no place on Twitter. Roth called the campaign an “organized effort” and said they’ve faced tons of tweets containing slurs and other derogatory terms. Additionally, those 50,000 hateful tweets repeatedly used a particular slur. Roth added that most of those accounts are “inauthentic,” and the company is taking action to ban the users who involved in the campaign.
Twitter hits by a coordinated trolling campaign
While many users expect Elon Musk to change the Twitter content moderation policies, he asserted in a tweet that still no change has been made to those policies. Musk already said that the company wants to form a council with “widely diverse viewpoints” to make major moderation decisions. Until then, there will be no change to the moderation policies. Musk has taken over Twitter in less than a week but has been quite controversial. He first fired all the company’s top executives, including the CEO Parag Agrawal. Then, outlets reported about laying off 75% of Twitter staff, which was later denied by Musk. Additionally, he allegedly ordered Twitter employees to implement a new plan for verified accounts, forcing verified users to pay $20 per month, unless they want to lose their blue badge. The billionaire is now reportedly suggesting splitting Twitter into different sections where users can give posts content ratings. It will be interesting to see how will Musk’s rule differ from before. Major changes are expected, but it remains to be seen if they will be for the better, or for worse. It’s also worth noting that Twitter’s co-founder, Jack Dorsey, is planning to launch a new social platform called Bluesky. It may aim to attract unsatisfied Twitter users.
