According to the report, the Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra currently receiving the August update in Germany. The new firmware version is G99xBXXU3AUGM. We don’t have a changelog handy, so it’s unclear if this update adds any new features and/or improvements to the Galaxy S21 series. Of course, it introduces the latest security maintenance release (SMR) to the new Samsung flagships. Samsung had begun rolling out the August security update to the Galaxy S21 series last week. But the initial rollout was limited to users in China, or perhaps the Chinese variants of the phones. The rollout has now reached international models, beginning in Germany. The Galaxy Fold 5G, meanwhile, is receiving the latest security update in the UK. The update comes with firmware version F907BXXS5EUG1. It’s unlikely to contain any new features or improvements apart from this month’s vulnerability fixes. Talking about vulnerability fixes, Samsung recently confirmed that the August SMR contains fixes for over 40 security issues. The majority of those issues were found in Android OS, including a couple of critical flaws. The new release also patches eight Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items. If you don’t already know, SVEs are security vulnerabilities exclusive to Samsung devices.
Samsung picks up the pace with its August security update rollout
Samsung started rolling out the August 2021 Android security patch to its devices early last week. The Galaxy A52 was the first to pick up the new Android SMR, followed by the Galaxy A8 (2018), Galaxy A72, Galaxy S21 series (in China), and the Galaxy S20 FE. The Korean firm has now released the latest security update for the international versions of the Galaxy S21 series and the Galaxy Fold 5G. If you own any of the Galaxy S21, S21+, S21 Ultra, and the Galaxy Fold 5G, you should receive a new update in the coming days if you haven’t already. A notification should prompt you to download the update or the air (OTA). You can also manually check for updates from your phone’s Settings app. Simply navigate to the Software update menu and tap Download and install to see if there’s an OTA update available. The rollout should expand to more regions over the next few days.
