Samsung began beta testing the new One UI version for the Galaxy S22 series in August. Over the past four beta releases, the company squashed dozens of bugs while simultaneously adding new features and making improvements. The latest update, which is rolling out with the firmware version ending with ZVJA, brings another round of bug fixes as the stable release draws closer. According to the official changelog, the fifth One UI 5.0 beta build fixes crashes of the Galaxy Watch plugin and photo editor (via). The autofocus issue with the cameras and the bug that caused the phone to reboot randomly have also been fixed. Samsung has further fixed bugs and issues with fingerprints, unlock sound, call sound, wallpaper, multitasking interface, Bixby, and more. The changelog doesn’t mention any new features, which indicates it is the final beta release. The latest beta release seemingly removes Bixby Text Call. This feature lets you convert audio from ongoing voice calls to text in real-time. It comes in handy in situations where you can’t speak or listen, such as loud concerts. Bixby Text Call is currently only available in the Korean language but English support will roll out in early 2023, likely with One UI 5.1. Perhaps this is why it has removed the feature from the latest One UI 5.0 build. Nonetheless, if you’ve enrolled your Galaxy S22 in Samsung’s Android 13 beta program, the latest update should be available to you anytime now. The OTA (over-the-air) update weighs just over 471MB, though it may vary depending on your model and region.
Galaxy Z Flip 3 also gets a new Android 13 beta update
Along with the Galaxy S22 series, Samsung today also released a new Android 13 beta update for the Galaxy Z Flip 3. This is the second beta release for last year’s clamshell foldable. The device may get one or two more beta builds before the stable rollout, which may arrive next month. It’s not confirmed yet, though. We will keep a close eye on all the developments around Samsung’s Android 13 update and will keep you posted accordingly.
