The unlocked model of the original Galaxy Z Flip (SM-F700U1) is currently picking up the October security update in the US, SamMobile reports. The update comes with firmware version F700U1UES4EUI2. The latest SMR should soon arrive for the carrier-locked model as well, though the build number may vary slightly. While we don’t have a changelog handy to confirm the contents of the new update, don’t be hopeful of any major new feature. The Galaxy Z Flip recently received the One UI 3.1.1 update with a bunch of new features and usability and functionality improvements. The next set of new features may not arrive until the Android 12 based One UI 4.0 update, which should arrive early next year, or maybe even sooner. But when it comes to vulnerability fixes, the October SMR contains more than five dozen of them. The majority of the issues were found in Google’s version of Android. But there are over 30 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items as well. These are privacy and security issues exclusive to the Korean firm’s custom Android skin, i.e. One UI. A handful of the issues patched with this month’s security update were of critical severity, Samsung confirmed earlier this month. You can find more details about the contents of the October SMR for Galaxy smartphones and tablets here.
October update reaches the Galaxy Z Flip in the US
US-bound units aren’t usually the firsts to receive the latest Android security updates. But Samsung has significantly improved its software update game over the past couple of years. The Korean firm more often than not now brings the new SMR stateside within a week of it reaching the international versions of the phones. The international version of the Galaxy Z Flip picked up the October update last week. And it has now reached units in the US as well. If you’re using an unlocked model of the clamshell folding phone, you should soon receive the new update if you haven’t already. Users of the carrier-locked Galaxy Z Flip can also be on the lookout for this update in the coming days.
