Nest Debuts New Doorbells Its Cheapest Camera Yet

Let’s get, probably the most popular, product out of the way first. That’s the Nest Cam. Which is revamped this year, with a new design like everything else Nest has announced today. But perhaps the most important aspect of this camera is the fact that it is now under $100. The Nest Cam is going to retail for $99. Making it the cheapest Nest Cam yet. It does everything you already know and love from the Nest Cam. But now cheaper and with a facelift.

The Nest Cam (Battery) and Nest Doorbell (Battery) are their first battery-powered products

Like I said already, this announcement has quite a few “firsts” here. And that includes battery-powered Nest cams and Doorbells. These are new to the Nest lineup, and really expand it too. The Nest Cam (Battery) is pretty similar to the regular Nest Cam, except it can be used inside or outside and doesn’t need to be plugged in. It will record 1080p video with HDR, allowing you to see what’s going on at night, even when its pitch-black. The battery life can last up to seven months. But that will depend on how you use the Nest Cam (Battery) and how much activity it sees. Now the Nest Doorbell (Battery) is pretty similar, and offers up to six months of battery. And again, that depends on how much it gets used. It’s also super easy to install. Both of these use machine learning to make it easier to identify objects that the Nest Doorbell or Cam might see. They were modeled from millions of images first. And thanks to a new TPU chip inside, it can run an ML model at up to 7.5 times per second. Meaning that it is going to be super reliable. The Nest Cam (Battery) and Nest Doorbell (Battery) will go on sale on August 24. The Nest Cam (Battery) is going to cost you $179, while the Doorbell (Battery) will be priced at $179.

Here is Nest’s first connected floodlight camera

Rounding out today’s announcements, is the Google Nest Cam with Floodlight, which is the first connected floodlight camera from the company. It will cost you $279. Making it the most expensive of the bunch. Google has not given a release date for this nor the Nest Cam (Wired) yet, those will land later this year. This is a pretty simple product, it’s basically a Nest Cam with a floodlight on either side. It is motion activated, so once it sees motion it will turn on the lights, like most floodlights are able to do. This also helps the Nest Cam take better video, since it has two giant lights behind it. Like the other products here, Nest says the floodlight does have local storage fallback. So if it loses WiFi connection or power, it can continue recording. Nest says that it can handle about a week’s worth of events.
