“We’re excited to share more details about “New to you” – a feature helping you discover new creators and fresh content, beyond the recommended videos you normally see,” YouTube said in a community post (via). The tab is accessible from the YouTube homepage on the web, mobile or smart TVs. This “New to you” tab will help viewers discover content from lesser-known creators to boost engagement. It will be an extension of the existing recommendations algorithm, but with a focus on videos you haven’t come across before.

YouTube said users would need to sign into a Google account to access these new recommendations

YouTube clarifies that since this feature is personalized, it may not be active at all times. Moreover, users will also need to be signed in to a Google account to get these recommendations. “You’ve told us that you want to see new creators and new videos after you’ve caught up on your recommendations, so we hope this new option keeps things fresh, while also helping creators connect with new audiences,” YouTube said. The company also tweeted from its official account, urging users to refresh their feed if they don’t see this new tab yet. This new tab will appear in the topics bar for YouTube app users. This is one of the many features introduced by YouTube in the past few months. The streaming platform is also testing new features for future releases. A report earlier this month spoke about YouTube’s plans to add an engagement graph to its videos. This would provide a graph on top of the video progress bar, denoting the most popular or “frequently re-watched” parts of the video. This feature is currently in the experimental stages but could eventually make its way to all users. YouTube said that it would be available to a small group of people on mobile and web versions. But with no ETA available, it’s unclear when it would roll out to all users. This is one of the many features coming to the platform in the next several months.
